Hackathons have birthed global innovations such as Facebook’s “Like” button, conceived at an internal hackathon in 2007, and GroupMe, a group messaging app developed during the TechCrunch Disrupt Hackathon in 2010. In Africa, hackathons have also spurred innovations like EaziTaxi, and today they serve as powerful incubators for fintech, healthtech, agritech, and edtech solutions.
At Reimagine Africa 2025, teams of young innovators will work intensively over 24 hours to develop digital solutions tackling some of Africa’s most pressing challenges. Their prototypes will later be showcased on Demo Day before investors, policymakers, and media, turning ideas into real opportunities for scale.
